So You Want To Make A Profitable Website?
Part One of Two
How to make money from your website is the most commonly asked questions from new web developers all over the world. However, it is also the most misunderstood. Before I continue this article, I want to make something clear: you cannot easily become rich from your website. There are exceptions to this of course, the owner of eBay, I presume, eats $100 bills for breakfast and the owner of the Million Dollar Homepage has made over $500,000 to date. However, it is possible to earn a living off your website. I'm not saying it's easy, but if you are prepared to put in a little bit of hard work then your website can return I steady income.
Still here? Good. In this two part guide I plan to walk you through and help you set up on your website the most common (and reliable) ways of generating a small profit from your website in four and a half easy steps. Now let's get started:
Step #1 – I don't need content, do I?
Content will be the key to your success in making money from your website, because – lets face it – no one is going to hang around on your website if there is no, or rubbish, content on it. I'm afraid there's know easy way around this, you're going to have to work hard to get that content written. However, there are a few tricks of the trade you can do to make your website content rich with minimal effort.
Really Simple Syndication, more commonly know as RSS, is a great way of keeping fresh content on your site. It allows you to publish news on your site from other sites with no real effort. Best of all it updates itself regularly meaning your content is fresh – users love fresh content.
Another great technique is to get free content from sites like ezinearticles.com or articleworld.net However, be sure to read there terms of service because you usually are required to have a link back to the author's website or the originating website. This is a great way to get lots of good content onto your website with minimum effort, as long as you don't mind the link back.
Now your website has got some stunning content for users to drool over, we have got to make sure users can find your website in the first place.
Step #2 - http://internet.greatfreehosting.biz/~neverland/x/to/y/user7645/index.html
Ok, here is the challenge. Read through that website address once and then try to remember it. If you can't you should get my point, if you can then you've had to much coffee.
The point I am trying to get across here is that there is that promotion is like content: essential to your overall success. Invest in a domain name from Go Daddy or another cheap site, or if you don't wont to do that get a free URL redirection service like .TK or .CO.NR to turn your long URL into as short professional one.
Now you have got a short easy to remember website address you can start promoting your website around the net. Check out this excellent article on how to promote your website so the visitors keep on rolling in: http://www.dev-central.com/articles/view/92.html.
Summary
This article has all been about optimizing your website you get the most money back from it. In the next article we get down to the nitty gritty stuff - I will show you the most reliable techniques of making money from your website. Until then, make sure your website is full of content and has a steady flow of visitors. Now, only two (and a half) steps remain, grab yourself a coffee and check out the second part of the guide!
